“ Unless freedom is gained in the body, freedom of the mind is a far fetched idea” BKS Iyengar Patricia Dewar (Ph.D) Patricia has had a life long interest in studying and teaching different body modalities that view the body as a vehicle of consciousness. Her ability to see and understand bodies enables students to discover their own trouble spots as well as guide them with helpful clues towards an integrated experience of the pose. Her teachings focus on awakening the inner body. This is encouraged by an emphasis on alignment of the internal organs, space in the joints, and a balance between release and extension. Listening to a subtlety of sensations encourages the student not only to achieve lightness and ease in the pose, but more importantly teaches the student to address issues of discomfort with “right action.” Accordingly yoga is taught as a practice that occurs both on and off the mat. This method of teaching requires detailed preparations and careful sequencing of poses. Patricia is committed to students understanding the depth of yoga and is inspired by her students and the transformation that yoga brings to everyday life. She has a keen interest in making yoga accessible to all. Currently Patricia gives classes, workshops, retreats and teaches individual private classes on request . “When the body is cleansed, the mind purified and the senses controlled, (then) joyful awareness needed to realize the inner self also comes.”(BKS Iyengar)
